Overthinking
Overthinking:
Overthinking is a condition in which a person's mind constantly dwells on certain thoughts. These thoughts may include real issues, but often they involve things that have no basis in reality.
Causes of Overthinking:
-
Overuse of Social Media:
When social media is used wisely and in limited amounts, it doesn't cause much harm. However, excessive use can lead to several health issues, including addiction, anxiety, depression, and overthinking. -
Past Experiences:
For some people, past experiences turn into traumas that keep replaying in their minds. These memories stay fresh and disturbing, often leading to overthinking. -
Anxiety and Stress:
Many people are deeply concerned about different areas of their lives, such as careers and personal goals. They take these matters so seriously that they can’t go even a second without thinking about them. Their minds get stuck between expectations and reality. "What-ifs" keep spinning in their heads, making them overthink instead of actually trying to solve the problems. -
Fear of People:
No doubt, we live in a world where the statement "Log kya kahenge?" matters a lot. Many people suffer from this fear. They constantly worry about what others will think, say, or how they’ll judge them. They feel the need to appear perfect in every aspect of life so no one criticizes them. This pressure of perfectionism, combined with fear of judgment, often leads to overthinking. -
Fear of Failure:
There are different types of students:
– Some have a careless attitude toward studies and don't care about their future.
– Some are extremely focused and work hard day and night.
– And then there are those who care a lot but end up thinking more than they act.
These students are often troubled by thoughts like "what if I fail?" For them, failure feels like the end of everything. They treat exams as if they are a matter of life and death.
Ways to Overcome This:
Here are a few effective ways to deal with overthinking:
-
Let It Go:
Letting go is an art—and not everyone masters it. Until you learn to stop overthinking and let things go, it will be difficult to move forward. -
Prayers and Quran Recitation:
A person who prays five times a day and recites the Quran regularly and sincerely usually finds peace of mind. This spiritual connection can protect against overthinking. -
Therapy:
Therapy is considered one of the best ways to treat mental health issues, including overthinking. You can also talk to someone you deeply trust—sometimes, a loved one can be your best therapist. -
Let It Out:
Once you find someone you trust, share everything that has been bothering you. Don’t hold it in. Bottled-up thoughts only become heavier with time.
Also, if your overthinking involves someone, talk to that person. It’s possible that what you’ve been assuming is totally wrong. Sharing might help clear your mind and fix misunderstandings. Let things be the way they are, and allow your mind to relax.
